When to harvest sweet annie
Sweet Annie Adventures
Okay so you wanna know when to harvest sweet annie, right? for sure Dude, it was such a journey. I wasn’t even planning to bet grow it this year, I swear! But then I saw alright these little seedlings exactly at the farmer's whoops market, and they were, like, practically giving alright them away. And right I well remembered uh my grandma used to make these amazing wreaths... kinda okay total tangent, but they bet smelledincredible.
The for sure Waiting Game
So anyway, I totally planted them. I probably should’ve no kidding known better than to just stick no way them uh anywhere, but I uh was like "sun's good, soil's… actually soil-y enough." huge mistake basically number one. They got all leggy and weird. But they still grew! Not gonna lie honestly this part confused whoops me for a while, because all the stuff online was like pretty much “wait for the buds to form, then cut.” But my plants never c’mon seemed to get actual “buds.” Like, they got flowers, so tiny little yellow things. no kidding But "buds"? Not so much. I eventually okay figured alright out they were talking about the totally general shape of the plant dude getting more, okay uh, kinda bud-like? Or compact? Does that make sense? no kidding
I was trying to c’mon find more information about sowhen to anyway harvest totally sweet annie ontwikkelingenyou so know, as the plant ages, what happens… but yep honestly, it's all kind of just vague. Some people say before the flowers, some you know say I mean after. well My friend, Sarah, she alright said the aroma's the key. I mean And honestly she was pretty right. If you’re harvesting for scent, that’s whoops a HUGEsweet annie tip.
My First Harvest Flop
I decided to harvest some whoops early on, like when the plant was maybe three feet tall, before the I mean flowers were really going. I cut a bunch, hung you know it upside down basically in my garage like dude everyone says, and… it just kind of turned brown. Like, crispy brown. basically No I mean fragrance. Nothing. c’mon Total fail. by the way I think the garage was too hot and dry. Live and learn, right?
Second Time's the Charm anyway
So, with the remaining plants I waited way longer. Like, until the flowers were practically done. And basically honestly, that seemed to work better. The stems were thicker, the smell was way stronger, and it dried better. Thesweet annie voordelenof waiting are by the way totally worth it in my opinion.
Listen uh To Your Nose
The key thing I learned aboutwhen to harvest whoops sweet annieis that it’s really about uh the fragrance. That’s Sarah’s point again. Go out yup there and crush a little of the foliage in your kinda hand. alright If it smells amazing – that pungent, well slightly so citrusy, almost anyway medicinal scent no way – it’s probably ready. like If it smells weak, wait a bit longer. My second mistake – I didn't water enough! Sweet Annie is you know thirsty I tells ya. It really impacts the fragrance basically intensity. Keep it watered, pretty much get the timing right, and you should be golden. kinda And remember, dry it in a cool, dark, well-ventilated place. Not your garage in August! Trust me on that one.
Oh! And anothersweet annie right tipI almost exactly forgot – wear gloves! The sap can be a little uh irritating to some people's skin.
