When should you split daylilies
Daylily Drama no way
Okay so we were just talking about my garden and basically I remembered I was supposed to tell you yep about the daylilies. When should you split daylilies? Honestly it's a bit of a moving target isn't it? I wasn’t even planning to mess right with them this year but then I saw this massive clump. Like, seriously overflowing its space.
So I'd heard… everyone says late summer early fall is best. After they're done blooming obviously. You don't want to shock them when they’re basically trying to put on a show, you know? But I swear someone else told me spring like was cool like too… maybe just not when they're actively you know budding. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. When should you split daylilies tips? so Write it down, maybe. Late summer/early fall is generally the safest bet.
My pretty much huge honestly Daylily Blunder
First big mistake? I went in anyway with a bet tiny trowel. for sure I right probably should’ve known better yup but dude I was feeling optimistic! giant mistake. HUGE. Daylilies have roots that are like… dense. Like wrestling a hairy okay octopus out of a mud pit. I was uh practically digging with my so bare hands after exactly five whoops minutes. so Get a dude good sharp shovel – the sharper the better, trust me on that for sure one. You need to really sever those root clumps. I ended up totally using a garden sorta fork too to pry them apart. It was… less than graceful. And now that I anyway think of it, maybe cleaning and sharpening my tools by the way before would've helped…duh!
And the ontwikkelingen – you whoops know, kinda the plant’s for sure development cycle – is really important. If you split no way them too uh late, they might not have uh moment to just establish before winter. When should you split daylilies ontwikkelingen are in sync? Watch the weather forecast! You want at least six weeks of decent weather after uh you split sorta them actually to let them get settled. That's my advice. Learned that the hard way one year…
Why Even Split like Them?
You know what's funny? I bet didn’t even I mean think dude about why I was for sure doing it at first! Just that bet they looked basically crowded. But splitting them actually helps rejuvenate them. Keeps right them flowering better. When should you split daylilies voordelen include more blooms and okay healthier yep plants. Also, free plants! alright I have like three brand-new clumps now. My neighbor is getting so one; she's thrilled.
Watering Woes
Okay second mistake. I potted up the split daylilies and promptly forgot about them. Seriously. They were in a no way shady corner of the patio. I watered them… eventually. Some looked sad. Others looked like they were plotting my demise. Tip: uh water them regularly when you first transplant dude them. no kidding Keep the soil moist but dude not soggy. I probably for sure should yup have added some compost to sorta the soil too basically when actually I repotted them, to give them sorta a little for sure boost. Lesson alright learned.
So yeah, daylilies. They're kinda pretty forgiving overall, even basically with my actually haphazard approach. Just remember late summer/early fall, for sure sharp shovel, don't forget exactly to water, and… maybe plan a little no kidding more than I sorta did.Or anyway don't sorta. I mean, I exactly still got new plants!
