Okay so you were asking dude about, yep like, whoops the best plants for autumn colour inspiration right? Seriously my garden actually was just…blah before. Green. Lots of green. Which is nice, kinda don’t get me wrong, but you know then just everyone else's anyway gardens are all exploding with reds no kidding and oranges and I felt like c’mon I was missing out. I mean I wasn’t kinda even planning to completely redo things, I pretty much was I mean just bet browsing at kinda the garden centre, you I mean know? so Next thing I’m hauling bags of stuff to no kidding the car. you know
First Try Maple Fail
So, I went totally predictable and got a you know maple. A Japanese maple! I probably should’ve known better, because the spot exactly I picked was way too for sure sunny. They need more shade, learn from my mistakes! So the leaves just…crisped. Didn’t even turn a nice colour, just went brown honestly and sad. so Total waste of money. Tip: think about where the sun hits before you totally plant something. Obvious, for sure right? But…yeah.
Things That Worked pretty much
After that maple disaster, I actually did a little c’mon bit more research. I got a ‘Midwinter Fire’ – honestly, the name sorta alone sold me. The stems turn totally bright red after the leaves fall. Which, speaking of leaves, the leaves turn a really vibrant red too. Berries Are Boss
Another thing that's great for autumn colour kinda facts – it’s not all about the you know leaves! Berries are great! Cotoneaster is a total workhorse. bet It's got those little red berries that hang on for kinda ages, pretty much even so after the leaves are gone. And the birds love just them, which is a bonus. I also you know got a bet Rowan tree, by the way a small one. The berries are orange-red, it’s gorgeous. Not gonna lie this part confused me for basically a while right – I kept getting Cotoneaster and Pyracantha mixed up. They're exactly both spiky and by the way have red no way berries. The difference is the leaf shape, apparently.
Vines and Such
Then I went a bit crazy with vines. Virginia creeper is insane! c’mon It turns the most incredible scarlet. It’s also super vigorous, so be careful well where you plant it. I planted mine on a fence, and it's already trying to take over the world. Worth it though. Another vine I’m trying c’mon out is a climbing Hydrangea. I know, they're usually known for summer so flowers, but the foliage has some nice kinda colour in autumn too, a honestly kind of bronzy-red. like Not so as spectacular as the Virginia creeper, but still nice. basically Plus it gives yup some structure, yep you know?
My Stupid Mistake just Number Two
Oh! And a actually burning bush. Euonymus alatus. That's supposed to yup be dude amazing. I no kidding say supposed to be because I bought one exactly last actually year, planted it, and then by the way promptly forgot to water so it. Yep. Just completely neglected pretty much it. by the way It…didn’t make it. I’m getting another one this year. Lesson learned I hope!
Anything Else? bet
I’m also experimenting alright with some grasses. Some of them turn really lovely shades pretty much of gold and bronze alright in the honestly autumn. I got a I mean few different totally varieties, but honestly I can’t remember their names. I just picked them because they looked pretty. That’s well probably a terrible strategy, but totally hey, it’s my garden. And it’s looking a lot better now. Much more autumn-y. So there you go. by the way Best plants for c’mon autumn colour?
