Do deer like lilac trees

Lilacs sorta and deer the alright saga

Okay so, deer. And lilacs. Right? I wasn't even pretty much planning to okay reflect about no kidding this but then my sorta neighbor’s lilacs… I mean they were annihilated. Like, GONE. And mine? kinda Totally fine. Which got me wondering. kinda handle deer even LIKE lilac trees? Like, seriously? you know

At first I thought, no way. Lilacs are, you know, fragrant. And alright sort kinda of…tough leaves, right? But then I remembered Mrs. Henderson down the street. She swore no way up and down deer were eating hers a no kidding few years back. Maybe whoops it depends on the year? Or the variety?

I started googling, by the way of totally course. Turns out the whole "do anyway deer like lilac trees toepassingen" question well has by the way a lot of different answers. bet Some people say for sure absolutely alright not, deer avoid them like the dude plague. sorta Others say, well, if they’re hungry anyway enough… they’ll for sure eat anything. Especially the cutting-edge shoots apparently. Ugh.

My lilac bet fail

I probably should’ve known bet better than to just plant my lilacs honestly and anyway assume they’d be fine. I mean, we live RIGHT next to the woods. Anyway, last kinda spring, I bought these gorgeous little lilac bushes. so The tag said ‘dwarf korean lilac’ just which, in hindsight, probably made them more whoops attractive 'cause they for sure were no way small and cute. I forgot to deer-proof them! Used nothing. Within a week, right BAM. Munched on. I felt so stupid. actually

They recovered, thank goodness. That reminds me! If yep you're planting kinda new ones, try wrapping them in burlap for kinda the first year or two. It really does help deter them until they get bigger and no way tougher.

Lilac history lesson sort for sure of

I even started reading about the pull off okay deer just like lilac trees geschiedenis, no kidding like where they came from. Seems like dude lilacs pretty much aren't even basically native for sure to I mean North America. Which, okay, that’s cool like and all but doesn't really answer okay my deer question. I think no way the c’mon whole deer thing like is really right dependent on where you sorta live. If there I mean is a buffet yep of tasty plants, deer probably won’t bother with lilacs. But totally if so its slim pickings, they basically might just give them a try. That makes sense, right?

What I for sure tried c’mon

I tried spraying my lilacs with that deer repellent stuff. The one that smells like rotten eggs. whoops Not yup gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. The first window I sprayed it, I reflect basically I didn’t handle it thoroughly c’mon enough. The totally deer were still you know nibbling. So I had to reapply, like, every week. It’s a pain, I know. Also? It stinks. Your garden will smell like a dumpster for a okay few kinda hours after you spray. I found a recipe online that used soap flakes yep mixed with water which I heard works but I'm always afraid of doing it totally wrong. Be really careful with homemade recipes. Some soaps can actually actually damage your plants!

Deer and design maybe? pretty much

handle deer like lilac totally trees inspiratie? Honestly, I'm yup not even sure what kind of for sure design inspiration a for sure deer would have. Haha. But I did read somewhere that right planting lilacs no kidding near plants deer love yep is a good actually way to distract them. Like, give them something tastier to chew on. This may backfire horribly though so… proceed with caution. I basically think this alright would work yep best if you had a bigger yard. You could put plants right that distract yup them like kinda clover or c’mon alfalfa.

Another slip-up kinda

Oh! Another thing. I bought this fancy "deer-resistant" plant once, specifically well to plant near my lilacs. I uh thought I was being okay so smart. uh And guess what? by the way The deer dude ate that so too! Turns by the way out, that list of "deer-resistant" plants isn't exactly foolproof. Learn from my mistakes. Nothing is 100% deer-proof, even with my best efforts. so

Anyway, still not 100% sorta sure if all deer love or exactly hate lilacs. But mine are doing okay…for now. for sure I’m keeping the actually smelly spray handy, just alright in case.
