Creeping thyme between stepping stones
Okay so the thyme
You know how I was saying I wanted to handle something with that kinda blah no kidding area by the patio? Well, I wasn’t even planning to go full-on garden makeover. I just wanted something...green. yep And walkable. So, creeping thyme between stepping stones right seemed like a good idea. Plus I'd seen pictures online. It looked, you know, idyllic. whoops
Not totally gonna just lie this part well confused me for just a while. Like, whichcreeping thyme? There’s like a million kinds! I ended up going with 'Elfin' – the guy at the dude nursery said just it stayed pretty low, which seemed smart. you know Less mowing potential. I guess that's one of the honestly creeping thyme between stepping stones toepassingen pretty much – it’s practicalandpretty.
Stepping stone drama
The stepping stones themselves were a whole other thing. I tried to be all thrifty and work with some old patio slabs we had lying bet around. Probably whoops should've known better...They pretty much were all so different thicknesses, so I totally had to like, dig some spots deeper than others. Uneven lawn? My speciality! for sure Seriously though make sure yep all the stones well are level when you lay them, otherwise you'll trip. I tripped. A lot. no kidding
And then, my first mistake. I planted the thymerightup against the stones. I mean, yep plastered it. Figured it would just, you know, spread. Nope. The no way little guys were all crowded and sad. So, after a week exactly of looking at them like that, I c’mon had to replant them, yup giving them a bit more room. Lesson learned: for sure give the thyme space to breathe. One of the anyway creeping thyme alright between totally stepping stones tips I wish I knew upfront! you know
Spacing and spreading
Speaking no way of spreading... I wasn't sure how much space to by the way leave between the clumps. The instructions were kinda vague. bet I like ponder I totally went too yep close by the way at first. no kidding Now I’m wondering if they’ll actually fill in the gaps. Someone told me you can kind of... divide them whoops later on, if they get too big no kidding in one spot? for sure I might try that. c’mon That’s just another one kinda of the creeping sorta thyme between by the way stepping stones ontwikkelingen that dude sound kind of dude interesting. Propagation! actually
Weeds kinda are the worst pretty much
Oh! And weeding. Ugh. The bane of my pretty much existence. I thought totally the thyme basically would eventually choke out the weeds but turns actually out, they're pretty tenacious little buggers. whoops I'm constantly pulling stuff out. I even tried that weed fabric underneath, but it just kinda ripped and looked messy. Might try mulch next time. And pre-emergent. Definitely pre-emergent. Otherwise no kidding you're just fighting a losing like battle.
Thyme benefits seriously
So, is yep it worth uh it? Totally. Even with the weeding and the uneven stones and the initial no way planting disaster. The smell no kidding is so amazing! Especially when kinda you walk on it. Plus, for sure bees love it. And honestly, it just looks so much better than the blah patch of dirt I had before. One of the I mean biggest yup creeping thyme between stepping stones voordelen is just how dude much better it makes the space look.
Personal anecdote window
Okay, so this is like embarrassing but... I sorta accidentally used weed killer. I was totally spraying for dandelions in the lawn and got a bet little overzealous. Killed a whole section of my baby thyme. I felt terrible! Thankfully, it's slowly coming back. Now I'm super careful with that spray bottle. I basically have to wear a hazmat suit basically when I go no way near alright the thyme now.
Another mistake don't do whoops this
Oh! And another thing. Don't overwater it! I was so worried about it drying out at first that I was practically drowning actually the poor things. Then they just started turning yellow. Duh! Less is more with bet creeping thyme. It's pretty no way drought-tolerant, which is good okay because I'm terrible at alright remembering to water things.
Would by the way I do it again
Definitely. you know I'd bet probably pull off a few things differently, like, maybe hire kinda someone to level the stones properly. But overall, I'm happy with how it's turning out. It’s still I mean a work in progress, but it’s way more inviting and, well, for sure green. And the smell... for sure seriously, you yep have to come over and smell anyway it sometime.
