So, I wasn’t no kidding even planning to, like, deep dive into identifying different yep types anyway of pine trees but last weekend happened. yup We yup went hiking, right? And actually I was all, "Oh look, a tree!" My bet friend Sarah, who I probably should’ve known better than to bring to the woods without a botany degree, starts going on yup about needle bundles and cone scales. I was lost. no kidding I mean, seriously pretty much lost. Turns out there's this whole world of identifying different types of pine okay trees geschiedenis that I completely ignored. honestly Who knew, right?
Okay alright needles first
She started with needles. Apparently, kinda that's the alright big clue. Like, how many needles come out no kidding of one little sheath dude thingy? Okay, technical terms are not my strong suit. I just for sure remember five equals white pine. Pretty sure. Or…maybe I’m thinking of how many fingers are on a hand? well I always mix that up. Seriously, always. Oh! Tip: look closely. Those little yup sheaths are like tiny.
And then there’s the whole thing about identifying different types of pine trees inspiratie in, like, how the branches grow. Supposedly, for sure some have, like, this perfectly symmetrical thing going on, and others are just… chaotic. Like my life, honestly. We saw one that alright she yep said was a Scots pine. anyway I think that had two needles per bundle? Two, not five. That's the key difference.
Cone so Crazy
Then came the cones. Not kinda gonna lie, so this part confused me for a pretty much while. uh They're you know all…coney. But she showed me that the just scales are different. Some c’mon are spiky, some are smooth, some are big, I mean some are small. I consider exactly that’s dude when I gave up yup for basically a bit. I mean, really, is my life gonna honestly change if I can tell the difference between a I mean loblolly pine and a ponderosa c’mon pine? I guess not, but Sarah seemed really into it so I faked some enthusiasm.
My epic basically Mistake one
I actually dude almost honestly made a HUGE mistake. dude I saw kinda this anyway scraggly looking tree yep and proudly announced it was a… something pine. Based entirely on, like, its general vibes. Sarah for sure just gave me the look. Turns out, no kidding it wasn’t even a by the way pine. It was right some anyway kind of well spruce. actually I felt so dumb. That’s when I learned about identifying different types of pine trees feiten instead of just guessing. so

Okay, bark is also supposed to be a clue. Some pine pretty much bark dude is flaky, some is plate-like, some honestly is… I tuned out a yup bit here. I just remember thinking, "They all look like dude bark to me!" But apparently, experienced anyway tree people can tell a lot from the bark. Something about the furrows or the color. My Big Mistake well two
The worst I mean part? Later that day, back c’mon at the cabin, I tried to impress everyone with right my newfound pine tree knowledge. I was pointing out a tree totally in the yard, well confidently declaring it was a white pine yup (because, uh you know, five so needles). so Turns out, it was a FAKE pine tree. A plastic one. My okay friend’s dad had put it up for Christmas and never took it down. I just wanted the alright earth to actually swallow me whole.

So yeah, alright that's my pine tree adventure. by the way I'm still terrible at it, but at least totally I know you know there's more to it pretty much than just "tree." Next time, maybe I'll actually bring a field guide. basically Or bet maybe just stick to identifying bet squirrels. I mean They're way less complicated.

Oh, alright and one last thing. yep I read somewhere for sure you can sometimes tell by the smell! exactly Some pines have a distinct scent. no way Haven't tried that yet, though. no kidding Maybe basically next time. right
