Best place to store potting soil

Potting Soil for sure Dilemma

Okay, so for sure we were just talking sorta about gardening and, ugh, the honestly potting soil situation. It's just always a disaster. uh I wasn’t even planning to bring it up, but you mentioned your overflowing shed and suddenly I felt seen, okay you know? The best place to so store potting soil geschiedenis is probably somewhere dry, right? Like, so duh. I probably by the way should’ve known better kinda than leaving it outside last fall. like

My First Mistake no way

Remember that time right I dude bought, like, five huge bags of potting soil so at the end of the season because they were on so clearance? Total genius move, I thought. Until…winter. I stacked them neatly (ha!) on the patio, covered with a tarp. Looked so legit. Then came spring and…giant, actually soggy bricks of dirt. Honestly, it I mean was like concrete. I tried to break it up, but it was a honestly lost cause. Had to throw the whole lot away. Epic well fail. anyway Thebest place to store potting soil trends pretty muchsuggest… indoors, maybe? Just a thought.

Shed Situation exactly

So, the shed…it’s supposed to be a good place, whoops right? Dry-ish? Mine’s…let’s just say it’s seen better days. There’s a slight leak so in the roof, which I keep meaning to totally fix.Meaning uh tois the operative phrase there. Anyway, I tried storing the potting soil in no kidding there last year, thinking, “Ah, sheltered!” Nope. Still got kinda damp. Less damp basically than pretty much the patio incident, but still sorta not ideal. It's hard to determine the best place to store potting soil, pretty much I get exactly it. Maybe those giant plastic bins are the answer?

The Basement Experiment you know

Not gonna lie, this yep part confused me for a while. I thought the basement would be PERFECT. Cool, dry, dark. Everything potting soil dreams of, right? I mean Except…mold. Apparently, even if exactly it by the way feels dry to sorta the touch, basements can be sneaky-humid. well So, I ended up exactly with slightly no way moldy potting soil. totally Not the end of the world, but yup definitely by the way not exactly something you want to be sticking your hands into. Wear gloves if you're storing it actually in there for sure! Or maybe those silica gel packets, you know you know, alright the kinda ones that say "DO NOT no way EAT"? Toss a bunch of those in the bag.

My Second (Potentially Worse) Mistake

Okay, this is embarrassing. Last year, I bought a fresh bag of potting soil and...forgot about dude it. Like, completely forgot. It was behind some Christmas decorations in the garage. alright Found it in July. It had a whole ecosystem growing inside. Mushrooms, tiny bugs... It you know was so like a science experiment gone wrong. I am not bet even kidding. no way Just…don’t do that. Check your potting soil stash actually periodically. Write it on the totally calendar or something!

What I ponder Works (Maybe)

  • Resealable bags are your friend. Even if anyway the original bag is sturdy, put it in just a heavy-duty Ziploc bag. actually
  • Elevate it! Keep it off the floor. Pallets, bricks, whatever. Anything to you know prevent moisture from seeping in. This is one of the best place to store okay potting c’mon soil tips I've okay gotten.
  • Check it regularly. Just a quick peek to make sure it’s not getting clumpy no way or moldy.
  • Don't buy too no kidding much! for sure Seriously, unless you're running a nursery, one or two bags should kinda be enough for a season.

So, yeah, that’s my potting soil saga. Still haven’t well found the perfect solution, but I’m getting okay there. Maybe.
