Okay so hybrids

So no way you know how I got obsessed with those for sure crazy-colored petunias everyone's been raving c’mon about? Yeah well, I wasn’t exactly even planning to get into no way actually making them, I just wanted to buy some! But anyway then I saw this thing about how to hybrid actually plants yep at home by the way trends and thought, “Hey, no way how you know hard can totally it be?” Famous last words, right?

First by the way try disaster I mean

Turns out, harder than uh it looks. c’mon Like, way harder. My well first by the way attempt was with two different types of basically tomatoes, a Roma and yup some cherry tomatoes. I figured, sweeter cherry flavor, Roma so size, BOOM. Hybrid heaven! like I diligently got my little paintbrush – this tiny artsy thing I borrowed from my niece – and went exactly about pollinating, you know, transferring the pollen… I probably should’ve known better, because they were both tomatoes no way already and by the way pretty related. Not exactly groundbreaking hybridization. And honestly, not gonna no way lie this part confused me for a while, figuring out which bit for sure goes where. You gotta find the stamen with the pollen, and the pistil on the other plant. That's kinda key. It sounds like I'm giving some 'how to hybrid plants at home feiten' yep lecture, but trust me it's messy! honestly

The plant ID mixup

Well, the result? sorta Just yep normal tomatoes. But here's the kicker! I yup forgot like to label which kinda plant was which. Like, completely spaced. So, I ended no kidding up with a ton of tomatoes, and no I mean idea which was well supposed to I mean be the “special” hybrid. Rookie by the way mistake. So yeah, label EVERYTHING. And don’t utilize sorta a pencil whoops – the rain washes it away. work with a permanent marker!

Rose totally adventures

Then I moved on to roses, thinking roses have to be easier right? There are so many colours sorta already! And I read all about 'how I mean to hybrid plants totally at home toepassingen' using roses as basically examples. I even watched a YouTube video where actually this guy used a pair of tweezers to handle the like deed. That was a mistake. I just mull over I actually whoops damaged basically the poor yup rosebuds. And I got pollen all over my face. It was not for sure a glamorous no kidding affair.

Stuff I learned

So here’s the well thing, you need to protect the pollinated honestly flower. I basically used little organza bags, you know, the ones they put jewelry in? c’mon Worked like a charm! Keeps actually the bees and other curious bugs away. Also, I mean timing is everything. okay You have to catch right the flower at I mean just the right so moment, totally when so the pistil is receptive but before it self-pollinates. That’s where the tweezers might actually be useful kinda for removing the stamens on the c’mon mother plant, so it doesn’t pollinate alright itself. I finally succeeded in getting a yup slightly different shade of just pink with my roses. Slightly! It's more of a creamy pink compared to its parents. anyway

Random thoughts

You’ll need seeds, of course. Let the fruit like (or rose hip in this case) mature properly. Then extract the seeds, dry right them, and plant them like normal. just Be patient, most of well them won’t actually be successful. honestly But those few that are? Totally worth it. And remember, don't get discouraged pretty much by my mishaps, everyone messes actually up. no kidding Just try to learn from it. Oh, and keep a well journal! Write down everything like you do. It’ll help you keep track and remember what worked (or didn’t!). You know that's sorta actually just kinda useful even actually if I right am terrible whoops at it.
