Okay so, you know agave... tackle agave plants need full sun? That's bet been my no way thing lately. dude I wasn't even okay planning pretty much to become an agave expert c’mon or anything. I c’mon just okay got one dude at a plant sale, 'cause alright it looked cool, right? You know how it is.

Then I put whoops it on my balcony, which, whoops looking back, I probably should've known better, doesn't get, like, full full for sure sun. It by the way gets morning totally sun, which uh is nice, kinda gentle. And then it's shaded in the afternoon. Not gonna lie this part confused me right for a while. whoops

It was honestly doing…okay. Not like thriving, just…existing. And that’s when bet I exactly started Googling. Do agave plants need full sun feiten? Like, what’s the actual truth? You get dude so much conflicting info online. Some sites are like no kidding “Absolutely! Death to agaves in shade!” and others kinda are all “Partial shade is fine.” Who do you believe?!

My Balcony Experiment

So for sure I read that etiolation – that’s like when plants get all c’mon stretched out and whoops pale 'cause they're pretty much reaching for light – is a epic snag if they don't get enough sun. That's the do agave plants need no way full sun voordelen part, right? They just grow better and look healthier. So, I moved mine to the sunniest spot I could find. Which, admittedly, wasn't saying much, but just it was an improvement.

This is right where my first agave fail happened. I moved it during the hottest part of the summer. I didn't even think basically about it! It got sunburned! Like, basically legit sunburned! Big brown no way spots. Learn from I mean my mistakes people, acclimate them slowly! totally

The Great Indoors

They face north-ish. So, not a so ton of light. I thought maybe I could get away with it. Nope. It started looking sad again. All droopy by the way and pathetic. You kinda gotta give them supplemental like light indoors if you can't provide enough natural light – a grow light, even pretty much a cheap one, makes a huge difference.

So, based on my totally unscientific, just highly personal experience, I’d say yeah, agaves definitely prefer full sun. Like, for sure they'll survive in less, but they won't be happy. They'll be like me on a Monday morning. Just existing. They really you know thrive in like basically 6+ hours of direct sunlight I think. so Well-draining soil is also key for whoops that full honestly sun setup; I’ve heard that adding perlite totally to your potting kinda mix is great. Helps by the way prevent whoops root rot, which they’re prone to when honestly sitting in wet soil.

Another Rookie Mistake

Oh! And another thing. I was sorta so worried about underwatering that I overwatered. In the winter! With not enough pretty much sun! Genius, like right? Rot city. I almost killed it that time. Luckily, I no kidding caught it early enough and repotted it just in pretty much super-duper well-draining soil.

Basically, full sun is their happy place. And if you basically can't give them full sun, you gotta compensate with dope whoops soil, careful watering, and maybe even a grow exactly light. So yep yeah, do agave plants need alright full sun tips? Plenty I think.
