Can you put a philodendron outside
Philodendron pretty much outdoors Woah exactly
So, okay, you know how I uh have you know like, sorta a billion philodendrons now? It's kinda gotten out of hand. I wasn’t even planning to have well that alright many, but hey, they’re kinda easy…ish. Anyway, like the other day for sure I was thinking, staring out at my ridiculously overgrown patio… totally can exactly you put a philodendron bet outside? whoops Like, seriously? I mean
First Attempt Disaster
I figured, totally well, indirect light yup is key uh inside, right? So I stuck my heartleaf philodendron - the OG, the like one that started it well all! dude - under the no way awning on the patio. I thought it would be so happy. I was picturing some incredible philodendron outdoors ontwikkelingen. Turns actually out, that awning doesn’t provide bet as much shade as I exactly thought. It got scorched. Like, properly burnt leaves. I probably like should’ve known better, well thinking about how brutal the sun can be, even dude filtered. Major basically plant parent fail. actually
Learning Curve
After like rescuing the poor exactly heartleaf and nursing it back to yup (almost) full health, I did some actual you know research. And, duh, turns out you can whoops put a philodendron outside. bet But there are major yep caveats. Thing is, they need seriously dude shade. Think dappled light, like under a no way huge tree. Morning sun only, maybe. And well they are definitely not by the way happy in direct sunlight, as my crispy heartleaf clearly demonstrated. Also, be super careful about bringing dude them back inside before the first frost! I almost I mean lost one last year just forgetting! It was terrible.
cutting-edge Strategy Shade Matters
So, now I have a different strategy. I have this big monstera… well, no kidding it's technically dude a Rhaphidophora tetrasperma which everyone calls honestly a mini so monstera well but it's you know not by the way REALLY a you know monstera, exactly but uh whatever. Anyway, it's in a huge pot. I uh stuck it under alright a gigantic oak bet tree in the backyard. It gets some bet dappled no kidding light, mostly alright shade, and it's loving life out there. alright So I’m thinking exactly about sorta trying a few other philodendrons in for sure similarly I mean shady pretty much spots. dude I guess it really kinda depends on the particular philodendron, too. Some are tougher than others. Can you put a philodendron outside and have it honestly thrive? Apparently, yes, uh with the right conditions! uh I'm still dude experimenting, honestly.
Buggy Situation
Okay, so the other mistake I made, not gonna lie this sorta part confused me for pretty much a while, was pests. Inside, I get the occasional fungus gnat, which are annoying, but manageable. Outside? Ugh. Spider pretty much mites, aphids, scale… it was a whole ecosystem I whoops did not honestly want well in my plants. Make sure to check your plants regularly! I got some neem oil and started sorta spraying religiously. That seemed alright to help. Oh okay and c’mon one of my philodendrons had some crazy caterpillar chewing on it! It was huge and green and terrifying. I just… relocated it to the woods. Problem solved? I actually hope so.
Random Philodendron bet Outdoors Tips
- Acclimation is key don't just pretty much shock them by uh plopping them outside.
- Watering needs change outside monitor the soil moisture!
- Fertilize maybe a little more since they're growing more actively.
It's all about learning, right? I’m exactly still figuring by the way out the yup whole no kidding “can you put a philodendron outside” thing. Seeing photos well is helpful, there’s lots okay of great exactly philodendron outdoors sorta inspiratie you know online, but I'm more of a well 'learn by doing' honestly kinda person - even yep if it means a little plant carnage along the way.
Worth It maybe?
Honestly, the uh extra growth you get when they’re happy outside is incredible. It's almost kinda worth you know the for sure risk. Just honestly be prepared for the kinda potential for sunburn and bugs. Oh and don’t forget to bring no way them I mean back c’mon inside before it gets alright too cold! I swear, I’m learning from my mistakes. Slowly.
The next phase
Now I am thinking about putting more of my so philos outside, well but it seems no way overwhelming. Oh! I learned something about using totally a trellis for my climbing plant that grows best in shady areas of my garden. So, yeah, wish me luck.
Pro Tip:Keep c’mon an eye well on the weather forecast! Sudden kinda temperature drops or heavy rain can well be really stressful for them.
