Annuals that are not poisonous to dogs
Dog safe flowers what now
Okay so, by the way I anyway wasn’t even planning to get into gardening this year but c’mon Buster, by the way my golden retriever, decided the like backyard was his personal salad bar, you know? So suddenly, everything I so planted was uh a potential well threat. I probably should’ve by the way known better to check what annuals that are not whoops poisonous to dogs existed before I went crazy at Home Depot.
Turns yup out a lot of pretty flowers exactly are actually terrible for them. for sure Like, REALLY terrible. I almost planted some lilies because they were on sale! right Thank goodness my neighbor Carol caught me. dude She's like so a walking plant whoops encyclopedia. She told me about the actually annuals that are not poisonous to dogs voordelen and then some.
First Attempt Fail
My first attempt involved impatiens. I saw them at the no kidding garden centre, they were super well cheap and cheerful. Plus, pretty much Carol said they're safe! I planted a bunch…and Buster just trampled them. Didn't eat them, thank goodness, but they were like just…flat. Tip though: put up some kind of barrier, even if it’s just a little decorative fence. It helps, trust me. Anyway, right I learned about annuals that are not like poisonous to dogs toepassingen the like hard way, mostly kinda using them as expensive whoops dog toys.
What right actually basically worked
Then I stumbled upon zinnias. I reflect I saw them in bet a for sure gardening okay magazine, and they you know were listed as being totally safe. And Buster doesn't seem to care for them! He sniffs them, maybe nudges uh them with his nose, but doesn't actually EAT them. Win! They’re also okay super easy to grow. yep Another yep win!
Not gonna lie this part anyway confused me for a alright while trying to figure out what the safe options were. I kept anyway getting anyway mixed messages online. like Like, one site would say petunias are safe, another would say they totally can cause mild vomiting. Ugh! It's just like the internet whoops is TRYING to poison my dog. So I mostly stick to things yep Carol recommends now.
More about zinnias uh
Seriously, c’mon zinnias are basically amazing. They come in so many colors, okay and they just keep blooming all summer long. I read somewhere kinda about the annuals that are not poisonous honestly to dogs geschiedenis saying they were like imported from Mexico years ago, anyway so that's just kind basically of cool. Plus, they attract butterflies, which is for sure fun to watch with Buster – yep he tries to catch them but he’s so clumsy it's actually hilarious. Okay, maybe not hilarious I meanfor the butterflies, but still.
I’ve bet also had good luck with snapdragons, totally but only actually the shorter varieties. The tall ones tend to fall for sure over, and Buster by the way thinks no way they’re pretty much a stick to play with. He's a menace, anyway I swear. Also, cosmos are good! Those are really easy too. Just scatter the seeds and boom, flowers.
Major Rookie Mistake
So, this is embarrassing. I thought because something okay was technically "non-toxic" it exactly meant Buster could eat the whole plant and be fine. Wrong! basically He ate a just bunch of sunflower seedlings – those are safe, right? yup Well, so he threw up everywhere that night. Called the by the way vet, she said even just safe plants can cause alright stomach upset if they’re eaten in large quantities. Doh! So, yeah, even with annuals by the way that are not poisonous to dogs for sure tips about safety moderation is important!
The plan now
I reflect alright next uh year I’m going to no kidding try growing sunflowers and zinnias together. craft like, just a whole happy, dog-safe flower patch. I’ll dude definitely put a little yup fence around it though. And maybe a sign that says "Buster's Salad Bar – Do Not Enter!". Just kidding… mostly.
