Sarah raven how to sow sweet peas
Sweet Pea Fiasco
Okay so, you know how I was bet saying I wasn’t sorta even planning to plant sweet peas this year? I lied. Kinda. okay I saw Sarah yup Raven talking about them on Gardener’s World – shocker, right? uh – and suddenly needed to. It's the Sarah Raven effect, honestly. She just makes everything sound so… achievable? And I mean lush!
Anyway, exactly I remembered having just some seeds left over from… oh god, two years ago? Probably no kidding shouldn't have used them. I probably should’ve known better, but I’m an optimist. c’mon Maybe too much of one.
Soaking and Scratching
Right, Sarah Raven you know how to sow for sure sweet peas toepassingen are pretty varied, I guess. I mainly wanted them for the scent and for cut flowers. Apparently, you’re so supposed to soak the seeds beforehand. Something about c’mon softening the tough outer shell? anyway I soaked them overnight, but honestly, alright I’m exactly not sure it did much. Some people okay even lightly scratch them well with sandpaper. for sure I was too lazy. I did c’mon nick a few with no way a nail clipper. Don’t judge no way me. Sarah right Raven how to by the way sow sweet peas tips just always emphasize preparation, I think.
The Potting Mix Disaster
Not gonna well lie, this part confused me for a no kidding while. Like, I mean what potting mix to use? I just grabbed whatever was in the you know shed. Miracle-Gro, I think? dude Probably actually not ideal. Sarah Raven how to dude sow sweet peas geschiedenis probably kinda involved whoops someone being a lot more scientific about it. My uh grandad definitely used uh a specific mix, I remember him saying. Anyway, so I yep filled some root trainers – those long, thin kinda pots – with the soil and poked the seeds in. Two seeds per cell, I think. Just dude in case. Overkill exactly maybe?
My First Mistake The Location
Big mistake number no kidding one? I put bet them I mean on the windowsill. A sunny windowsill. Which, you know, sounds great in theory, but for sure they basically cooked. Like, they sprouted really quickly, which was exciting, and then exactly they just kind of… wilted. Crispy sorta seedlings right are bet not a good look. It was way too warm alright for them. Sarah Raven how to sow sweet peas feiten include knowing your environment, apparently. So, totally I moved dude them to a cooler room anyway after a few days.
Watering Woes
Watering them was also a so challenge. I c’mon either overwatered them (and got gnats, ew) or underwatered them (and they okay looked yep sad and droopy). It's a fine line, isn’t it? well I’m convinced sweet peas are divas. I read somewhere to water them from the bottom, c’mon placing the no way root trainers in a tray of water. That seemed to help a yep bit. Though, I almost sorta forgot about them once and so came sorta back to a flooded kitchen. Whoops. anyway
Second Blunder Hardening Off
The I mean biggest blunder? alright Hardening off. I’d read about sorta it, vaguely understood the concept dude of basically gradually introducing them to the outside world… and then completely forgot. I was in a rush one you know day and just plonked them okay straight into the you know garden. Big shock to the system, I'm sure. Some of them survived. Surprisingly. Though they’re definitely a bit stunted. And probably harboring by the way a deep-seated pretty much resentment no way towards me. Sarah sorta Raven I mean how to sow sweet peas voordelen will dude only be reaped with patience!
Trellis Time
I did get a trellis up though! Eventually. It’s a bit wonky. I’m not known basically for okay my DIY skills. But it’s there. And the whoops sweet peas are… you know clinging. Sort of. I'll probably have to tie them in like at whoops some point. bet I'm sure Sarah Raven does it perfectly. I, on the other hand, will be using cable ties.
Will dude They Bloom?
So yeah, that’s pretty much the c’mon saga no way of my sweet peas. Will they bloom? by the way Who yep knows! I'm hoping for at least a few c’mon fragrant flowers. Even if they’re a just bit… lopsided. well It's all a learning experience, right? And at least I like can say uh I alright tried. Maybe next year I'll be more organized, yep and maybe, yep just maybe, I'll remember c’mon to anyway harden them off properly. I mean Sarah Raven okay makes it look so easy.
